Hi Sean,
That's totally up to you - either way, nice job encouraging a BSD community in Ottawa!
I can really relate, and I would like to make the following suggestions:
1. Connect with Scott Murphy who runs the OCBUG<https://ocbug.ca/>. Maybe he would be interested in attending/organizing a meetup, or adding the details about one to the website. Having this information up on the website, and any social media he might manage for the group, would be helpful for encouraging interest/participation.
2. It might be too soon - there's still a lot of Covid out there, and a lot of concern over it as well. We do have a number of retired people in the community, as well as students, consultants, contractors, etc. and it's likely not worth it to any of them to get Covid. However, there is a newly approved vaccine booster <https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/immunization/national-advisory-committee-on-immunization-naci/recommendations-use-bivalent-omicron-containing-mrna-covid-19-vaccines.html> (approved on September 1, 2022) in Canada that protects against the Omicron BA.1 variant.
3. Let's make a new group - I'm on board with helping to build a community around Unix-based operating systems in Ottawa. I'm not a big fan of siloeing *BSD and Linux projects, but sometimes that works well. Personally, I think what occurred with CentOS recently affected all of us. Anyway, domains are inexpensive, as are wordpress devs (you have one right here 😉). Github hosts, and other (ex. local) hosts are inexpensive and great. Many of them are *BSD and Linux devs/users themselves. If we're considering something Ruby (ex. a static site with Jekyll) I have someone for that too. We would also need a mailing list. We could consider leveraging "Meetup<https://www.meetup.com/>".
4. Connect with Dan Langille about BSDCan. He may be interested in your initiative, and want to help organize some lead-up meetings for BSDCan and/or help promote the group at BSDCan. If you're successful in doing this, maybe you could submit a talk about it? I can get us a room at the University of Ottawa to use for meetups, and am very happy to help with talks.
Sincerely,
Katie

Unless I hear otherwise, I think I should cancel this due to general lack
of interest.

Depending on the interest level for returning to in-person OCBUG meetups, we should let Scott Murphy know so that he can post an announcement on the www.ocbug.ca<http://www.ocbug.ca> website :)
Cheers,
Katie

Anyone have another idea for Thursday night?
I'll be in the Bells Corners area that day for work but if we want to meet
somewhere downtown I could just grab an Uber/Lyft/whatever.
