Hi,

At the last ocbug beer'n'pizza night, we had a discussion of install
problems with PCBSD especially after Dru's talk at OCLUG. I thought
it might be a good idea to find a few of us who would be willing to do
a dry run installfest. Say just the members on the list who are having
problems with either a FreeBSD install or PCBSD, then later extending
an invite to other groups to an full fledged install fest. 

The idea would be to get the egg on our faces early on in side the group,
making sure we can solve just about any problem within the group before
tackling a more major event. 

I'd like to see some more folks at the upcoming OCBUG meeting so
we can discuss when, who, where, how. Ideally, Dru herself should be
at that meeting. If she is interested enough, perhaps we should meet
on another day next week or meet twice or ?

Usually it's the third wednesday of the month unless we make a change based on Dru's availability for the event :)

Should we do this at the pizza place and then settle for a venue with available power for an actual install fest? While I am sure we could go the whole laptop route, it would be nice to have a variety of hardware to do this with.

Perhaps we could do a *quick* in group installfest and do some last
minute last minute debug for 8.2. THen do a full fledged installfest
with anyone else who wants to show up.

Normand Fisher <fishern at ncf.ca>  Suggested he could find us some
space for a large installfest. Obviously we couldn't do either the
small or large installfest at the Colonnade. I am not sure we would need
much space for an in-group installfest.

Again, I was thinking we could bring *everything* spare CDs, USB sticks,
various versions of BSDs so we can debug anything thrown at us.
Of course, we'd also need some internet for backup support for this
kind of venture.

Then with a larger installfest we'd have a lot more confidence things
will work.

We should conduct some sort of installs prior to the 8.2 release; that should give us some time to post bugs before the next release and hopefully get fixes (if required) before it goes gold. If anyone wants to bring their PC-BSD/FreeNAS issues along, I don't mind tackling those and submitting any issues to the testing list. 

I also don't mind bringing USB keys, CDs, DVDs either. I'm not too sure about location but I think a local College/University would have enough space/power/internet for us to make use of. Should be a first good OCBUG meeting for me ;).

The 18th works for me.
We could do a mini-installfest-test anywhere but if there's interest
I'll try to arrange a full installfest teaming up with a ModLab meeting.
 Modlab meetings are twice a month on the first and third (yes, third)
Wednesday of the month at the Artengine M70 Lab, Art's Court on Daly Avenue.

I just acquired a beautiful IBM Thinkpad (P3!) and I will try installing
PC-BSD on it and report on my success or lack of.  Right now, it runs
Ubuntu 10.10.

I've got a dell laptop and a couple of generic boxes as well as a mini PC formerly used for playing video. I think I can dig up another box r two. Should be fun. I can also do one under parallels and vmware fusion and vmware workstation.

Hi folks:

I also received a half-tower and have no idea of the hardware installed.
I know the HDD has been zapped ... therefore we would have a fresh install.

I could also supply a rodent and a CRT but don't have an extra keyboard.

I agree with others that before all that can happen, we must plan the
logistics of the mini-fest.

I'm very flexible with date, time and place.

Note that this month (January 2011) we will be changing the night to TUESDAY, January 18 in order to
go over the mini install fest that we have been discussing on the list. This change if for January only.

Location: Cafe Colonnade at the corner of Metcalfe and Gilmore

Official start time: 18:00 (unofficial - whenever you get there)
Official end time: 20:00 (people usually start drifting at 19:00 unless they are engaged in a conversation)

If you want food, we tend to order at 18:00, so if you want to be eating with the rest, be there for 18:00

	? PC-BSD Install-fest - discussion, staging, venue, etc.
	? Call for volunteers for BSDCan 2011 - come talk to me at the meeting. Same drill as last year.
	? Discussion on archiving the old email list and continuing with just ocbug.
